There is a new generation of young men who are being raised on Martha. As my Aunt noted, this is similar to the young men who were raised on Days of Our Lives--my cousin being one. He has shown no ill effects from his childhood Days and can now proudly talk Days with the best of them. I consider Martha to be the Days for my sons' generation--a mommy show that gets thrust upon them with no regard to their interest or gender. I am not trying to say I think Martha is a female show, but there are certainly many people who would classify it as such.
Now I don't watch Martha too often with the boys...usually they are still sleeping when I am watching, but occasionally we do sit and watch together. I am tickled to say...they are hooked! They do not want to miss a second and request that I do not forward through the commercials in case I accidentally skip part of Martha. This past Friday evening was an occasion when we watched together. On the show Martha announced a cupcake contest and the boys immediately lobbied to enter. I told them we could as long as they thought of an original idea......here is what they came up with...*Mouse Cupcakes*!
A couple notes: this is the first time that I have attempted to frost cupcakes using the 1M tip. I am hooked like the boys on Martha! Three reasons why I love this tip:
- Makes icing the base layer of frosting very fast
- Makes your icing job look professional
- Provides a generous layer of frosting (sometimes the spatula method can yield inappropriate frosting to cupcake ratios)
The cupcakes are made with yellow cake mix and tiny chocolate chunks to make the insides look like swiss cheese (my contribution to the project). The cheese is made from marshmallows cut into wedge shapes and dipped briefly into water with a few drops of yellow food dye. Let the marshmallows dry on a paper plate before applying to the cupcake. Admire and enjoy!

Hi, to make the mouse I used a wide circle tip with stiff frosting. Hold the tip close to the surface and squeeze till the size of the frosting is the right size for the base of your mouse. Slowly pull up the tip as you squeeze, decrease pressure as you lift. You should end up w/ a mound of frosting that kinda looks like a mouse. Using a wet finger pat down the point of your mount to make it flatter. Then using C-shaped tip I piped on the ears. Start at the base of where the head should be and make a small 'O' with your tip. For the eyes, tail and mouth use a small circular tip. Good luck and definitely practice before making the mice on your cupcakes.

Thanks for sharing your mouse cupcakes! They're so cute! I plan to make them tonight for my daughter's birthday tomorrow. Can you describe how you made the mice? I'm not very experienced at piping so any hints you could provide would be helpful. Thanks.

I love this idea! Thank you for sharing it. Can you explain a little more about how you created the mouse itself? I'm hoping to make these tonight for my daughter's birthday and my experience piping icing is very limited.
