What better reason to have a get-together than this historical election. It seems like we have been waiting an extra long time for this Election Day to finally arrive. And certainly it was well worth the wait!
To get the boys excited we held an election to decide the entree and dessert for our *Election Night Dinner*. Each person got to nominate a dish and then we voted. The extended family was included in the voting so we wouldn't have a four way tie. Pizza and Flag cake won (see ballot below). There were two surprises for the guests. The first: a mock Electoral College vote. Under each person's plate was a card with a state, its electoral votes and check boxes to mark the state's vote for President (decided by the individual who got that state). The boys read and tallied each state's vote and then announced the winner: Obama edged out Chef M (write-in) by a landslide.
The second surprise was the inside of the flag cake. It consisted of three layers: red, white and blue (no good pictures).
Here is a the final election ballot...
The Electoral College voting cards....
The two craft items made for this dinner were the flags for the cake and the stemware cozy. The flags were easily made using ribbon, tacky glue and clothes pins. The 'VOTE', donkey and elephant stemware cozies were made using Martha's circle cutter (a very cool tool).
