For A's Baby Shower I knew I wanted to keep the decorations simple. Fresh flowers were an obvious must. I ordered 3 med/small arrangements from nearby florist Mayflowers and then purchased additional flowers (baby blue hydrangeas and pink roses) from a local grocery store. This combination of professional and do-it-yourself flowers is a good way to stay within budget and still have things look great.
As far as decorations beyond flowers I hadn't decided on anything firm. Throughout the party noodling process I had picked up some kits from Martha Stewart Crafts: Tissue Paper Garland Kit (two kits, each with 2 garlands), Eyelet Lantern Kit (came with 3 paper lanterns) & Tissue Paper Pom-Poms Kit (came with 7 large and medium pom-poms). The day before the party I busted out the kits to take a look and assess what should be used. Luckily I had some friends over and they convinced me to use them all. The resulting look of the pom-pom flowers and lanterns really made the space that much more festive and special.
A quick warning...do not wait till the day of the party to assemble and hang your pom-pom flowers. The pom-pom fluffing takes much longer than expected as does the hanging of them. I have to give a special shout-out to my friend, Sydney, who directed where & at which height all the pom-poms and lanterns should be hung to achieve a balanced & cohesive look. Many thanks! It really turned out great! If you want to make your own pom-pom flowers without a kit I found this easy to follow tutorial.

Beautiful! I really like how everything was arranged.

I made 70 pompoms for my neice's wedding. We couldn't fluff ahead of time as the wedding was outside and we were worried about humidity. We had at least 10 young unsuspecting teen boys fluffing their hearts out the day of the wedding!

To hang the lanterns and Pom-poms we screwed tiny eye hooks into the ceiling and then tied thread to the lanterns and Pom-Poms.
