Happy First Day of School

To make the boys' transition back to school a little easier, I gave them a small treat for them to enjoy during lunch time.  Its a tiny reminder half way through their day that I am thinking about them (little do they know, I am actually trying very hard not to think about them, so I can focus on my work, so that my day will end faster, so that I can finally how their first day back at school was).  A few years ago, we extended this tradition to include the boys' past and present teachers.  A small reminder to their teachers that they were not forgotten and still appreciated.

This year I ended up making standard Nestle Toll House chocolate chip cookies (a favorite in our house) for the treats.  I tested out oreo stuffed chocolate chip cookies, but was unimpressed with the results, so I went with the tried and true CCC.  The illustration on the cookie packaging was inspired by artist bubi's Love Stationary (I love the colors and design).  The cardinals on the design are a nod to the boys' school mascot and the cupcake was added for extra cheer (who doesn't love cupcakes).  I hope this made everyone's first day back at school just a little sweeter.

Tissue Wrap + Ribbon Flag + Bakers Twine

My new wrapping accessorie is a ribbon flag.  It provide added cheer to any gift!  For a great wrapping combo use tissue paper (2 sheets), bakers twine and a ribbon flag.  It also go great with stamped cards.

My New Obsession

For the past month I have had a crazy obsession.  As with most obsessions, it is a complete time-suck and consumes my precious free time.  The worst thing about it is, it's an online obsession.  After staring at a computer screen all day at work, the last thing I want to do is spend my free time in front of a computer, yet there I am.  I consider my obsession to be one of the best internet services of all time--pure freakin genius.  As a 'visual' and 'creative' person, I really had no fighting chance against it.  I have also gotten my sister hooked.  Now for the reveal...my obsession is Pinterest, a site that let's you keep track and organize pictures and content you find online (more here).  Instead of saving url links and not being able to find them later, all I need to do is 'pin' the picture from the website and Pinterest will save the picture on my virtual pinboard and the link back to the site where I found the picture.  I can create as many pinboards as I want to organize my pictures and links (i.e. Holiday Baking, Halloween, Etsy Finds).  Pinterset also makes it easy to discover more content and ideas and allows me to follow other pinners who share my style or interests.  You need to have a Facebook or Twitter account to join.  If you do not have either of these, then you can easily create a Twitter account and get started pinning.  Check out my boards and my sister's.  Here are some of pins from my 'For the Home' board...

Another Year

Today I turn 29 again.  I remember when the boys were real little, I used to feel old because I was a parent.  Now the boys actually make me feel younger.  They are at the age now where we can laugh together and joke around; its so fun.  I am looking forward to lots more!  Here are pictures from the birthday brunch this past weekend.

Angry Bird Party

I hate to say it, but I don't have too many details to share about the boys' Angry Bird Birthday party.  The party was held a 'cyber club', so I didn't need to do anything for the decorations.  The cupcakes were simply topped with an Angry Bird figurine and some mini M&M's.  The goodies bags contained candy along with an Angry Bird key chain (perfect to adorn backpacks)--but that's it!  I feel like I hardly did anything this year for the boys party, but I guess they are getting older.  Good thing my nephew only just turned 1!  Here are a few pictures...

Baby Blankets

It’s been a while…a very long while.  As I sat down to write this entry, I honestly had no idea where to begin. If you have been reading BunnyCakes for over a year and half, you might know me…if not, I am A (K’s sister and [new] mother to O). After taking a little bit of a breather (tough pregnancy resulting in a precious baby who doesn’t nap), I am back. Well, back for the time being.

My first post back is not surprisingly baby related, although, not my baby.  My group of friends is experiencing a bit of a baby boom. Exciting stuff! Baby boom equals baby quilt boom. In my opinion, nothing says welcome to the world like some handmade love! Although my free time is now very limited, I still try to do a little something for friends who are having babies.  My old standby was a knitted baby hat and although I still enjoy knitting, I have been lured away to the world of faster gratification that quilting offers (yes, I am a turtle slow knitter).

The first baby blanket is a pattern called “Winner’s bouquet.” I originally discovered this pattern in my local quilt shop and fell in love.  After being convinced that “it’s really not that hard” I decided to take the plunge (which resulted in a generous down and dirty lesson from said quilt shop---I bet they don’t tell anyone that “it’s really not that hard” anymore!). After learning a few quick tricks, the quilt pattern and I came to an "understanding." Since my co-worker is having a girl she wanted a color palette of pink. Luckily for me, my baby is a boy, and so the stash is well stocked with pinks. A majority of the fabrics are from Amy Butler’s Midwest Modern and Midwest Modern II… fabric lines that I just love! 

The second baby quilt is a slightly modified version of a pattern in Jodi Barrow’s Square in a Square booklet. This quilt is also for a co-worker (I seriously stopped drinking the water at work…it’s spiked with something). This was one of the first time I used the square in a square ruler and I have to say, it lives up to the hype! This quilt top came together in just a few short, enjoyable hours. The fabrics are: Alexander Henry’s Teeny Tiny Zoo and the green fabric is Michael Miller’s Zen Garden (in pear).
