To celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday all first graders were asked to dress up as a character from the Seuss favorite The Cat in the Hat. Naturally the boys wanted to go as *Thing 1* & *Thing 2*. With 1.5 weeks notice till the event I carefully weighed my options: (1) Pay $50 to order two t-shirts and have them express delivered or (2) Make the shirts myself. I decided to make the shirts myself, but I still had to figure out how best to do that. I could have gone with the iron-on-transfers, but having never used them before I was very skeptical of the resulting quality, plus I did not want to invest the $17 to buy the transfer sheets. So I turned to the miracle of double-sided tape and my favorite tool, the color printer at work. The overall shirt-making process took me less than 5 minutes and the results were great! The shirts were certainly not made for long term wear (or even medium term wear), but were perfect for the boys' morning parade at school.
To make the shirts I followed these steps: 1. Print a color image on regular white paper; 2. Cut around design; 3. Place double-sided tape on back of design; 4. Place design on shirt & press to make sure design is secure.
We spiked the boys' hair and sprayed it blue to complete the 'Thing' look.
