Having something in a book that is familiar and funny is the best way to teach the little people how to read, this is a great idea and even better if you involve your child in the making of it.

That's sounds so precious--what a treasure!

When my nephew was small, I made him a book all about him. It was colored paper, with two holes at the top of each page with ribbon through them. The top page of the flip book had words ("This is my mommy. She likes to run."), and a photo on the bottom page. The pages were then covered with clear contact paper. The whole book was people/things he recognized ("My favorite toy is the mop!", "My favorite game is Washing the Dishes." - really, it was!). It is how he learned to read.

He's almost 30 now and still has that book!
